We’re in Colombia!
After an extended flight (with brief pit stop in Panama City, Panama for fuel while waiting for fog to lift at our destination airport), we made it to Bogotá yesterday morning! Though there’s only a two hour time change (we’re in eastern time) from home, we were worried about messing up our sleep schedules since we didn’t rest particularly well on our red eye. So we checked into the hotel and then met up with the in-country representative of our adoption agency. We enjoyed brunch with her and her husband in an outdoor cafe, finding out about their life here. We’re picking up on some pieces of culture as we go… we sat and talked over the meal for about three-and-a-half hours! It was so relaxed and easy going. We then walked around the neighborhood where we are staying.
Andre has been rocking the Spanish! (Andre edit: my Spanish is mediocre at best, but it’s been enough to get by) I am building my confidence in speaking more, but I struggle with listening when someone is speaking quickly (or more likely, normal speed). We ventured out last night to a massive Target like grocery store. We picked up sandals for Maria and some exotic fruits for dinner!
The lulo is very sour. We also had passion fruit, mango, and mangosteen. We fly out to Bucaramanga in a few hours. That’s the city where Maria lives!! Today we’ll get settled and find dinner somewhere. Tomorrow afternoon we meet Maria!
