Catch up on Our Journey
Hello everyone!
First off, I am so excited for this blog to become a reality. Andre and I are passionate about our adoption journey and are so thankful to have an outlet where we can update everyone so easily! Let me give a quick recap on our adoption journey up to this point.
Andre and I began talking about adoption early in our marriage. A few years into marriage, this dream is becoming a reality! Through prayer and research, we chose to adopt from Colombia. Just over one year into the adoption process, it has looked like mostly fingerprints, background checks, paperwork, adoption books, weekend training courses, references, home studies, additional fingerprints, background checks, paperwork, another weekend training course, paperwork, notaries, notaries, notaries, did we get that signed off yet? To say the least, it is quite the process. A simplified checklist of what it takes to be able to adopt internationally is approval from the state government, the federal government, and Colombia’s federal government. At this point, we have two out of the three! We are completing a final checklist of about 20 items (official birth certificates, marriage certificate, name change certificate, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, family photos, etc.) which will be compiled into a giant application (the dossier) for Colombia’s government adoption agency to approve!
I know this leaves lots of questions to be answered; I will try to cover some basics:
We are approved to adopt 1-2 children ages 0-5 from Colombia.
We hope to send in our dossier realistically within the next 1-2 months, depending on some pending documents and appointments still to be scheduled. This could have us traveling to Colombia to pick up our kiddo(s) by the end of the year! The timeline is obviously still up in the air, but I’m praying for us to be in country by the end of the year!
This year has been incredible. God has been faithful in answering prayers and allowing us to enjoy this season of marriage with no children. Let me tell you, I married a winner. My husband has rocked out paperwork and appointments like nobody’s business. He is the scheduler and file keeper, and with our stack of paperwork, that is no joke. We have so much to be grateful for, and we are excited and thankful to be able to share this journey with you.
Please be praying for us, and we hope to post more news soon!
